Adventure Trips: Cut Out the Middle-Man with Offmap

Launched recently, Offmap.com is a new website with the goal of helping adventure travel find great deals by cutting out the middle-man.

Kraig Becker of Gadling.com reports: “The newly launched website Offmap promises to cutout travel agents and resellers, partner directly with local guides and use innovative technology to deliver trips at deeply discounted prices.”

“At the moment, Offmap has three itineraries for travelers to consider. Those include a trek through the Peruvian Andes, an active summer escape to Iceland and a short kayaking tour of the Hudson Valley in New York.”

Each trip has a detailed description attached, giving you an idea of what to expect, what your daily schedule will look like and what’s included in the price.

Of course, the most appealing thing about Offmap is their prices: “Offmap says that they can offer up to 70 percent off similar trips from other travel companies and it is hard to argue with them based on what they have available at the moment. For instance, the trip to Peru includes six nights lodging, most meals, a three-day trek through the mountains and a tour of Machu Picchu all for just $850.”

So how can they afford to sell these trips for such a low price? As Becker says, this is done by “partnering directly with local tour operators and eschewing chain hotels for smaller boutique lodging.” This illustration roughly demonstrates how it works:

As well as organizing the trips, they also provide you with an ‘interactive guidebook’ (available as an iPad app or as a PDF). These “include detailed maps, suggestions for self-guided sightseeing tours, tips on dining and nightlife and hints from past travelers.”

Because of the way the site works, they’ll only have a few deals on there at any one time (each with a limited number of spaces). This means that if there’s something you like the look of you should book it quickly, as hesitating may mean you miss out on a great offer.

This also means that they’ll be regularly updating the site with new offers, so it’s worth checking back every now and then to see what’s on offer. Check them out at Offmap.com.
