Using ‘OnTheWay’ to Enhance Your Road Trips

Posted by No Comment

OnTheWay is a travel app that combines Google Maps and FourSquare together to show you the best things to see on your road trip.

For those that don’t know (or haven’t used) FourSquare, it’s a great app that allows you to find places of interest near you, based on the recommendations of others.

For example, say you’re looking for a pub in Islington, London. You can tell the FourSquare app on your mobile phone this and it’ll return a list of recommended pubs nearby (along with a handy map to help you find them).

OnTheWay allows you to use the power of FourSquare’s recommendations and the route-finding of Google Maps together to create an amazing road trip full of interesting places to stop off at.

How Does it Work?

  • You load up the OnTheWay app (either on your mobile device or on your laptop computer – it works on both).
  • You hit the ‘Connect to FourSquare’ button (enabling you to get results from FourSquare and get better recommendations).
  • You type in your starting point and your destination and click “Show me what’s on the way.”
  • You’ll be given several possible routes to choose from. Pick one and the click “Alright, show me stuff!”
  • You’ll be presented with a list of highlights/attractions along your selected route.
  • You can select places that you want to visit and have OnTheWay create an itinerary for you. You’ll be able to email this itinerary to yourself or print it out.
