A Look at the Best Luxury Destinations for 2012

As the end of 2011 draws near and 2012 approaches, the race for the title of ‘The luxury destination of 2012′ hots up, and there are certainly some strong candidates.

Luxury Travel Magazine and Virtuoso Life Magazine preview the predicted top luxury travel destinations in 2012, and some of the destinations may surprise you.

So what have the luxury travel experts picked?

Here’s the rundown:

  • Tasmania – “For outdoor enthusiasts and adventure-seekers”. Tasmania hosts some of the world’s most amazing and  dramatic landscapes.
  • Thailand & Laos – Although technically two destinations, one can live like a king in these places for a mere pittance, and although Bangkok has come under some recent flooding, the north of the country is fine.
  • Ireland –  Great for non-Europeans, Ireland offers rich culture and warmth and boasts some of the best luxury resorts and golf courses in the world.
  • Republic of Congo – For safaris and gorilla-spotting, the Republic of Congo’s dense forests are the perfect place to visit.
  • Colombia - Colombia has been through some hard times in recent years, but since it’s rehabilitation it’s now a fresh and exciting country to visit, with many fascinating places to visit.
  • Brazil – With the 2014 World Cup taking place here (not to mention the 2016 Olympics), Brazil is going through some major changes as it prepares for the extra tourism. From Ipanema to Copacabana beach, Brazil has some excellent hang-outs.
